This is a public IP address of your computer or device. If you are using a router or proxy server then IP address may be your router or proxy server.

IP stands for Internet Protocol. IP address is an unique assigned identifier of each device like computer, router, printer etc, in a particular network. An IP address of a device in network is used to identify and communicate itself with other devices in same network. Generally IP addresses are lucid and follows particular format like 172.16.254.1 in IPv4 and 2001:db8:0:1234:0:567:8:1 in IPv6. IP address spaces are managed and distributed globally by Internet Assigned Number Authority (IANA) and they are divvied in five Regional Internet Registries (RIR). RIR is responsible to assign IP address to Local Internet Registries like ISP (Internet Service Provider) as well as end users. Every ISP or Private Network Administrators assigns one static or dynamic IP address to each device on that network.

IP address has two major roles one is Host Interface Identification and other is Location addressing which defines address of a particular device and the complete route map for approaching that device for a particular purpose on that network.

There are two versions of IP address available in industries, one is IP 4 and other is IP 6. An IPv4 is 32 Bits in size and limits the address space to 4 294 967 296 (232) IP Addresses. IP addresses formats are usually in dot-decimal notification, including of four decimal numbers separated by dots and each has a range in between 0 to 255. IPv6 is a new generation IP Address version in size of 128 Bits and provides up to 2128 addresses approximately. IPv6 designs provide the opportunity to separate the addressing infrastructure of a network segment and also automatically changes the routing prefix of entire network.

There are two types of Ip address version IPv4 or internet protocol version 4 and IPv6 or internet protocol version 6.
